Opportunities for senior artists and administrators

One of Ontario's greatest assets is its dynamic and diverse professional arts community. Senior practitioners in the field have made an enormous contribution to its success. They have been creating new works, teaching and mentoring younger artists and administrators, building companies and institutions, and developing new markets and audiences. Their work is a personal and professional investment in the health of the organizations they serve and the vibrancy of the sector as a whole.

In most cases, this work is carried out in challenging circumstances. Many of our senior practitioners still work with limited resources in a difficult and rapidly changing environment. Stress, burnout, and attrition are too often the result. Investing in the health and productivity of those who work at all levels in the performing arts is essential for its continued success.

Through this program, the Foundation wishes to acknowledge the contribution of senior practitioners and the benefits that can accrue - to them, to their art, to their organizations, and to the sector - from periods of professional development, reflection, and renewal. We hope to support dynamic leadership by acknowledging, developing, and strengthening leaders who are contributing to the vibrancy of the performing arts in Ontario. It is our hope that replenishment and renewed inspiration will encourage longer and more productive careers for these leaders.

The Foundation will not be operating our Senior Artists and Administrators program in 2009, while we investigate alternate ways to support this portion of the performing arts sector.
